The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) was established in 1963 with the mission of continuously improving the economic environment, business performance, and technical competence in the fire protection industry.
NAFED developed their National certification program over two years ago to insure the quality of the people operating within the industry. They provide training and testing for portable fire extinguisher technicians, pre-engineered kitchen suppression system technicians, and industrial pre-engineered system technicians. The state of New Jersey currently mandates NAFED certification for portables technicians and pre-engineered kitchen suppression system technicians operating in the state. Many states are planning to follow.
